The Literacy Project started out as an idea in the mind of Rotary member Loyd B. Baker. Loyd saw that the literacy level in Star Valley was getting lower, so he decided that one way of raising literacy was to get children to read - and to raise the reading level. He brought his idea to the Rotary Club of Star Valley to purchase dictionaries for all 3rd graders in the valley - and also Cokeville. As you can see, the children loved the idea which became more evident in the number of thank-you letters the Rotary Club received (hopefully the dictionaries were used to write the letters)! |
